Heatwave live updates as weather health alerts come into force on expected hottest day of the year
Wales is in for a chance at experiencing record-breaking temperatures today, Tuesday August 12, with places in both North and South Wales set to exceed 33°C. The hottest day of the year so far was on July 12 when Cardiff saw temperatures of 33.1°C.
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) is warning "significant impacts are likely" across health and social care services because of the high temperatures.
Dr Paul Coleman, consultant in public health at UKHSA, said temperatures are forecast to rise above 30C (86F) across some areas which "can result in serious health outcomes" particularly for the elderly or those with serious health conditions.
"If you have friends, family or neighbours who are vulnerable, it is important to ensure they are aware of the forecasts and are following the necessary advice," he said. Read the biggest stories in Wales first by signing up to our daily newsletter here.
"Check in on them if you can to make sure they know that hot weather is on the way and how to keep themselves safe."
Though the heat health alerts cover parts of England, similar temperatures are forecast across Wales.
A heatwave in Wales is defined as three days where temperatures reach over 25°C and Tuesday is set to be the third such day before the weather cools a bit on Wednesday.
Temperatures are due to peak today between 2pm and 4pm.
The August temperature record in Wales is 35.2°C at Hawarden on August 2, 1990. But the question is - will it be beaten? You can follow our live blog below to find out:
