Hearts player ratings as Craig Gordon tops list despite Europa Conference League thrashing at Tynecastle

Hearts kicked off their Europa Conference League campaign under the Tynecastle lights this evening, but it won't be one the Gorgie side will fondly remember.

Istanbul Basaksehir were the visitors to the capital and the Turkish side were simply too hot to handle, putting four past Hearts to secure victory. And it was a below par performance from the men in maroon in their first run out in the group stage of a European competition since the 2004/05 campaign.

But the wait was not worth it and Robbie Neilson 's men have a lot of work to do if they are in with any chance of matching their upcoming opponents on the continent in the coming weeks. The home side were somewhat still in it at the break, with just one goal separating them from their Turkish visitors. But things took a turn for the worse for Hearts in the second 45 when the Istanbul outfit netted three between the 67th and 82nd minute to make it a terrible night at the office for the Jambos.

Here are Record Sport's ratings from Tynecastle this evening...

CRAIG GORDON: Hung out to dry a tad by the players in front of him as he made some smart saves and had no chance with the goals. 6

MICHAEL SMITH: Had a nightmare task keeping tabs on man mountain Stefano Okaka. Did okay at first but it was a mismatch and he got worn down. 5

STEPHEN KINGSLEY: Was caught napping for the second goal having almost gifted one moments earlier. Ploughed on but not his best display. 5

ALEX COCHRANE: Another one who had some bright moments in the first half but then ended up being stretched as the game started to go after the break. 5

NATHANIEL ATKINSON: Couple of neat touches early on promised much but then started to get caught and was up against it much of the night. 5
