Heartbroken mum of Kulsuma Akter reflects on speaking to her the day before she died

The heartbroken mum of Kulsuma Akter has reflected on the last time she spoke to her. Kulsuma, 27, previously from Oldham, died after being stabbed in Bradford last Saturday (April 6).

On Thursday, Habibur Masum, 25, appeared in court after being charged with murder. West Yorkshire Police announced on Wednesday night that Masum, of Leamington Avenue, Burnley, had also been charged with possession of a bladed article.

Her mum emotionally recalled the last time they chatted, which was over the phone the day before Kulsuma died. Speaking to ITV News in Bangladesh her mum said: "On the day she died, I was praying. I didn't talk to her.

"I spoke to her the day before at Sehri time. We exchanged pleasantries. My grandchild was in her arms my grandchild wanted to come to me."

Through tears, the grandmother added: "No other mum should suffer like me, no child should be taken away from their mum."

Masum was arrested in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire, in the early hours of Tuesday. He appeared before District Judge Alex Boyd at Bradford Magistrates Court on Thursday morning (April 11).

Wearing a grey, long-sleeved sweatshirt, he spoke in court only to confirm his name, date of birth and address. The case was sent to Bradford Crown Court for his next hearing on Friday, April 12.
