Bomb squad called to residential street amid reports of a 'suspicious item'

Police and bomb disposal units descended on a residential street in Blackley amid reports of a 'suspicious item' in a house. Emergency services were called to Amesbury Road on Wednesday afternoon (April 10).

A number of emergency services vehicles attended the scene, including the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) which inspected the item.

It was later confirmed to be a replica grenade that did not pose any risk to the wider public. Greater Manchester Police did not confirm any further details or whether any arrests were made in connection with the incident.

The force said that although they are 'confident' that there is no further risk, patrols will continue in the area over the coming days to provide reassurance to residents.

A statement shared by GMP said: "Yesterday afternoon we were called out to a report of a suspicious item at a property on Amesbury Road in Blackley. Officers attended alongside Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) and inspected the item which was later confirmed as a replica grenade.

"Following enquiries, our local officers are confident there is no wider risk to the public, but patrols will continue in the area to offer reassurance. We’d like to thank the local community for their ongoing support, patience and cooperation."
