Heartbreaking tributes pour in after desperate search for man, 26, ends in tragedy

Heartbreaking tributes have poured in after the body of a missing young man from Stockport was discovered by police.

Charlie Johnson, 26, was last seen in the Cheadle Hulme area at 11.30pm last Thursday (September 21). His disappearance prompted GMP to launch a missing persons search.

The force confirmed on Tuesday (September 27) that tragically, a body had been found during the search for Charlie. His next of kin have been informed and a file has been passed to the coroner. No further details have been released at this stage.

Following the news, tributes have been paid to the talented footballer, who has been described by those who knew him as 'the kindest person ever.'

AFC Stockport, who Charlie played for last season, wrote on Facebook: "It is with sad news that today we say RIP to Charlie Johnson who briefly played for the club last season. Charlie netted 9 goals in 7 appearances for our Rangers team. RIP Charlie - Our thoughts are with your family and friends."

Stockport-based Bosden Farm FC said: "It is with great sadness we report the news on the passing of Charlie. We want to thank everybody who came together to help find Charlie.

"Charlie was a huge part of Bosden Farm and was loved by everyone who met him. We will miss him so much. We send our condolences to his friends and family and ask that you respect their privacy at this moment in time."
