Heartbreak as front of popular new restaurant CAVES IN just weeks after opening

The owners of a brand new African restaurant in Leigh say they are heartbroken after the front of their building caved in just weeks after opening.

Leigh Road has been partially closed after a portion of the property suffered partial structural damage.

Bricks have fallen to the pavement, a side street has been closed and an area has been fenced off for safety forcing Taste Africana and hair and beauty salon Hairport to close.

Greater Manchester Police say they were called to Leigh Road on Wednesday (September 13) at around 1:20am to reports of structural damage to a property. No injuries were reported.

Speaking about the incident, director of Taste Africana, Cynthia Chinule said: "It has affected us greatly, we are a new business and we have gained a lot of customers in a short time which is like three weeks. People love our food and we have had loads of people who have heard of us through reviews. It’s really disappointing to them and really disappointing to us because its a new business and this is huge investment for us.

"We were not there when it happened. We just came to work and saw everything and that really shattered us. What what really breaks our heart is we don’t know what timeframe we are working with so you just hope for information as soon as possible."

While the damage is only partial, a good portion of the building has caved in at the very first unit which connects with Irvine Street which has also been closed for pedestrians.
