'He's a machine' - Erling Haaland's unseen training ground work behind Man City records

Erling Haaland has been putting in the hours off the pitch to ensure he is ready to score goals on a matchday.

With five goals against RB Leipzig on Tuesday, Haaland broke the City club record for goals scored in a single season, as he reached 39 for the campaign. That record ensured Haaland's remarkable season continues, and City will hope he continues scoring goals to help them in their quest for the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup.

Unsurprisingly, Haaland has the full backing of his teammates, with defender Nathan Ake explaining how impressive Haaland is on the training ground to maintain his best physical condition and how he stays after hours to improve his chances of performing during games.

“He’s a machine. He’s been so important for us – an incredible talent and only 22. He does everything off the pitch right and to make sure he is able to play every three days and perform at the highest level," Ake explained.

"Treatment every day and always coming early and leaving late to be treated really well. He does everything well. He’s a top guy and we just have to keep going now. If he continues like this, no one is going to stop him.

"Off the pitch it shows how hard he works to make sure his body is always right and in the right frame. He gives everything to make sure his body is ok, and he can perform like this. We know the talent he has; he’s scored so many goals and hopefully he can continue as long as possible. He gave us a lot off the ball as well [vs RB Leipzig] – pressed high and worked very high.”
