'He'll kill you' - Leny Yoro lifts the lid on what Ruben Amorim is really like at Manchester United
Leny Yoro has given a revealing account of Ruben Amorim's approach to players in training sessions at Manchester United and said the head coach has no time for anyone who does not put in the maximum effort at Carrington.
The centre-back said Amorim would "kill" anybody he views as being lazy in training. Marcus Rashford has already fallen foul of that maxim, having been banished from the first-team squad for what Amorim described as poor performances and a lack of effort.
Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho were both left out of the squad to face Manchester City in December. While Garnacho quickly returned to the fold, Rashford remained exiled from the matchday squad.
Amorim said he wouldn't play "any player not giving the maximum" and that Rashford's training had "not been good enough". Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Yoro offered fresh insight on how demanding Amorim can be.
Yoro described Amorim's approach as "strict" and said punctuality was also vital to staying in his good books.
"In training, it's really, I would say, hard. But it's important. We have a lot of training, and for him, training is really important too, because you play the game like you train," Yoro said.
"The most important thing is to be really good in training. If you are not working, if you are lazy in training, he won't like you—he'll kill you! It's normal because, yeah, you play like you train.
"He’s really strict on this because, to win games and trophies, you need to be disciplined outside the pitch. You need to be punctual."
Amorim made public his dissatisfaction with Rashford's effort behind closed doors, but Yoro said the Portuguese head coach's communication was a strength, having played at a high level.
