He hid a dark secret... and his girlfriend was completely unaware of the skeletons in his closet

Ashley Geraghty hid a dark secret. His then-girlfriend, and mother-to-be, was completely unaware of the skeletons in his closet.

The pair had been together whilst in school, but broke off after he cheated on her. A short while later they got back in touch and dated on and off until she fell pregnant with their son.

From there, the grim reality of Geraghty came to light.

“He used to call me names and spit at me. He was just generally horrible,” she told the M.E.N. She has chosen to remain anonymous for fear of reprisals.

“He used to lie about where he was, what he was doing and who he was with.

“He was taking drugs - I’d find empty bags on the kitchen tops. It was awful.”

She said he would go missing for weeks on end on drug-induced benders, then come back home and say he was ‘really sorry’.

The pair would argue and she would ask him to leave, but due to an electronic tag he refused to go. Geraghty had told her it was because he had been in trouble with the police following a fight with a male. Little did she know it was because he had previously battered an ex-partner.

The woman said he pressured her into offering her address for the tag, which meant he was bailed to live at her house and stay indoors between certain times.

“I couldn’t back out. I felt like I was trapped, "she said.

In December 2017, things took a turn for the worse when he brutally attacked her whilst she was eight months pregnant. He pushed her to the floor and kicked her to the stomach before dragging her through the house. Her only means of escape was to get into the garden where he was restricted from going because of the tag.
