'Have you ever seen' - Why Paul Scholes was left fuming despite Manchester United win vs Everton

Paul Scholes was left unimpressed with Manchester United's ability to retain possession during Saturday's 2-0 win over Everton at Old Trafford.

Erik ten Hag's side bounced back from their 3-1 defeat at Manchester City last weekend by moving within eight points of the Champions League qualification spots thanks to a fairly routine win over the Goodison Park outfit, who allowed Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford to score from the penalty spot after Alejandro Garnacho was twice brought to the ground.

But despite Fernandes and Rashford easing the pressure on Ten Hag, whose future at United beyond the end of the season is uncertain, Scholes was left unimpressed with the fundamentals of the Reds' play.

"Have you ever seen a team give the ball away as much in your life," wrote Scholes, who made over 700 appearances for the club, on his Instagram story accompanied by two angry face emojis.

Assessing United's performance post-match, Ten Hag said: "In the build-up, I think we can be more calm and composed. Everton were good on their high press but that leaves a lot of space in behind which we used well with the runs in behind and that’s how we created a lot of our chances."

Meanwhile, Garnacho insisted United must win their remaining 10 Premier League games if they are to be within a shot of qualifying for next season's Champions League ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa.
