'Hats off' - Former Liverpool coach credited with well-worked Leicester City goal at Newcastle

Leicester City assistant manager Chris Davies has been credited with orchestrating the "great piece of play" that saw Brendan Rodgers' side open the scoring against Newcastle United.

The visitors took the lead inside 20 minutes from their first corner of the match as Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall fizzed the ball into the feet of Ayoze Perez from the quadrant and the 28-year-old flicked the ball behind to an unmarked Ademola Lookman who found the back of the net. It was later undone at the other end when Newcastle equalised from a set-piece of their own that City captain Kasper Schmeichel couldn't keep out.

Davies has been an assistant to Rodgers since 2010 when working under the Northern Irishman for the first time at Swansea City. The partnership stayed intact across subsequent stints at Liverpool and Celtic before moving south of the border to the East Midlands with Rodgers three years ago.

"I admired it," Redknapp said on Sky Sports' Super Sunday at half-time. "It’s a great piece of play."

"Dewsbury-Hall with a corner, Ayoze Perez with a really good run, sets it back for Lookman. It looks really simple but a lot of things to go happen for this to go right.

"Everything has to come into place. From an attacking point of view, Chris Davies, hats off to him."
