Has Dion Sanderson got a future at Wolves amid EFL loan spell?

Wolves have high hopes for Dion Sanderson, which is why the defender was recalled from a loan spell at Birmingham in January to be given a chance to impress boss Bruno Lage.

Whilst the Portuguese coach praised the 22-year-old, it was decided another loan move would be best for his development, with QPR, who were competing for promotion at the time, seen as the ideal club considering they play with a back three.

However, it’s fair to say that the temporary switch to the capital hasn’t worked out for anyone.

Sanderson has managed just seven appearances for the R’s, and he has struggled in that time, which includes receiving a red card against Blackpool.

Many QPR fans were expecting much more from the youngster, although there are perhaps bigger problems at the club now, with doubts surrounding the future of boss Mark Warburton following their alarming dip in form since January.

For Sanderson, he will return to Wolves in the summer and he is probably already looking forward to doing so.

Normally, you would expect a player who hasn’t done well on loan in the Championship to be nowhere near the first-team of a Premier League outfit, but that may not necessarily be the case with the defender.

Firstly, this is the first bad loan spell of his career, with successful stints at Cardiff, Sunderland and Birmingham enough to ensure Wanderers will still have faith in the academy graduate.

Then, there are doubts over the future of Romain Saiss, whilst Willy Boly has been linked with a move away in recent windows too. If either did depart, it should allow Sanderson the chance to feature, if only in pre-season.
