Harry Maguire drops subtle hint on his future with Manchester United comment

Harry Maguire has set an early target for Manchester United to achieve next season, despite uncertainty surrounding his future.

Maguire has made just seven starts in the Premier League this term and Erik ten Hag currently regards him as fourth choice in the centre-back pecking order, with Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof sitting ahead of him.

The 30-year-old's role has been significantly reduced and a move away this summer in search of regular game time is possible.

However, in an interview with the club's in-house media, Maguire set a target of continuing a solid home record next season.

The defender reflected on the current campaign and he identified the Liverpool victory at Old Trafford as the turning point, before suggesting the side must continue to enjoy good results at home to keep on making progress.

“That was a really important game for us," Maguire said about defeating Liverpool in August. "Obviously, we got off to a poor start in the season. We had a really good pre-season, then the first game of the season, I felt like we didn’t play badly.

"But we were unfortunate to lose against Brighton. Then we had a really disappointing second game [against Brentford]. So yeah, it was a really important win against Liverpool, under the lights, and we know how special it’s been at Old Trafford this season.

"We’ve had some big performances, big wins and it’s been a real fortress for us. It’s something we need to carry on and take into the next season if we’re going to be successful.

"I don’t think we played amazing, but in terms of importance to the season, I’d probably say that was the most important win.”
