Harper is only eight. But her quick thinking saved her nana's life

When her nana took ill, eight-year-old Harper Danson knew exactly what to do. She remembered what she had learned in class and realised her grandma needed help fast.

Her quick actions, and maturity beyond her years saved her nana's life and earned her "super hero" status amongst fellow pupils at her primary school in Salford.

Harper, and one-year-old brother, Jase, were visiting Susan Danson, 71. But when their mother, Rachel Wynn, 37, left the house to nip to the shops an emergency unfolded.

Harper, a pupil at James Brindley Community Primary in Walkden, said: "I was dropped off at my nana's with my baby brother. My nana's friend was round and she was fine and ten minutes after her friend left, I looked up from my iPad and she started saying my name weirdly."

With her nana Susan suffering a stroke, Harper was quick to remember the lesson she had from her teacher Laura Sharrock two years ago on how to deal with an emergency without an adult.

Harper said: "I knew Mrs Sharrock taught me how to know what to do. So I texted my Mum, and sent her a video with the time on it and went outside to get my nana's friend."

Harper's instincts to film her grandmother in that dramatic moment allowed doctors and paramedics to know exactly when her nana began suffering her stroke.

She added: "Because I took that video, the time on it allowed them to give her the right medicine."

And once help was on its way, Harper took her little brother out of the house to avoid the scary situation, showing true bravery in a moment of panic. "I wasn't scared because I knew what to do," she said.
