Hamilton 'really competitive' edge highlighted amid tough SWPL 1 results

Hamilton Women’s star Megan Quinn says SWPL 1 results haven’t been kind to Accies this season - but performances show they have the makings of a good team.

Gary Doctor’s side aren’t back in action until a Lanarkshire derby at Fir Park against Motherwell on April 16, and will use the short break to take stock of their term.

It’s been a tough period since their promotion from the second tier last season, winning just one of their 21 matches in the division, losing 17.

Many of their games – outside of tough outings against title-chasing Glasgow City and Rangers – have been tight affairs, giving Kelly confidence.

She said: “I am fortunate to have played in this league before, but for a lot of the girls it’s their first time playing against teams of this calibre.

“I know the league table doesn’t really do us any favours, but in terms of performances, we haven’t had that bad of a season. We have been beaten heavily by Glasgow City and Rangers.

“Other than that, most of the other games have been close. We have maybe been beaten by one or two goals, or a wee individual error has cost us.

“We have been really competitive and unlucky not to take some more points in some games. The onus is on us but we feel we have been hard done by.

“This season was about getting into the league and building up our squad for next season. I feel we have managed to do that but the results haven’t gone in our favour and we have been unfortunate.”
