Hamilton goalkeeper 'breaks arm' in Falkirk clash as boss counts cost of defeat in title race

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin has revealed their defeat to Falkirk was far more costly than just dropping three points to their title rivals - after goalkeeper Ryan Fulton appears to have fractured his arm.

And on top of all that, skipper Scott Martin looks like he, too, will be sidelined for a spell after coming off with a hamstring injury in the 3-1 defeat at New Douglas Park.

Rankin was left lamenting his side's luck as well as their performance, as they slipped three points behind Falkirk at the League One summit, having played a game more.

A Callumn Morrison double and a Calvin Miller screamer was enough to consign Accies to their second defeat of the season, having pulled level in the first half through a fine lob from Lewis Smith.

But the damage will be longer-lasting with Fulton fracturing his arm in a collision in the box just before half-time to be replaced by Jamie Smith, which followed Martin coming off after 25 minutes and defender Lee Kilday pulling up in the warm-up.

Rankin sighed: "It has not been a great day considering we lost the spine of our team within a 45-minute period.

"The extent of it is one has done a calf [Kilday], one has done a hamstring and the other has fractured an arm so losing them so early in a game, it is tough.

"It will be a period of time out for Scotty and Ryan.

"Ryan is away to hospital so when you hear that at half-time, there's a few heads turning and you are trying to keep things positive because he is our first choice goalkeeper.

"But Jamie has got an opportunity now.

"Obviously, we are very disappointed by the outcome of the game. Overall, I don't think we did enough to win it.
