Hamilton Accies Women will 'keep feet on ground' after marching clear of title rivals Kilmarnock

Hamilton Accies Women took a huge step towards the SWPL2 title after coming from behind to batter title rivals Kilmarnock 5-2 on Sunday.

But boss Robert Watson says his side must keep their feet on the ground, despite going eight points clear with a game in hand.

The hosts fell behind but turned the game on its head in the final six minutes of the first half. Accies levelled in 39 minutes when Josi Giard netted and just moments later Sophie Townsley bagged her 11th goal of the season before Chloe Muir headed home at the back post for a 3-1 half-time lead.

Killie pulled one back early in the second half, but Justine Strain hit two late goals to seal a vital victory for their hopes of an immediate return to the top flight.

Boss Watson said: “We knew it would be a very hard game. Although we won 4-0 down there, the two games prior to that were both quite tight.

“I think earlier in the season I think we might have panicked going a goal down, started going long and maybe not playing to our strengths, but the players did really well to stay calm. I always felt we would get chances in the game and with the way we’ve been scoring goals, I felt we’d score.

“Since losing to Boroughmuir in November, we’ve won every game since then and scored 24 goals in that period. The important thing was winning on Sunday. The game in hand is now really important. I don’t like games in hand, I’d rather have points on the board, and we can’t just assume that the game in hand will be three points.

"We’ve still got to go and look after that properly. We need to keep our feet on the ground and stay concentrated.”

Accies take a break from league action this weekend to focus on Scottish Cup Fourth Round action, with a trip to SWPL1 side Aberdeen on
