Hamilton Accies Women have quality to get results despite shipping 11 goals in last two games, says boss

Hamilton Accies Women boss Robert Watson insists he still has confidence in his players – despite shipping 11 goals in their last two SWPL1 games.

And Watson says they must get the basics right as Accies head to rivals Montrose in a fortnight.

Accies kicked off game one of 10 in the post-split season with a 4-0 derby defeat at home to Motherwell on Sunday, which followed up a 7-0 hammering at Montrose in their final game before the top and bottom six sides split.

Goals from Louisa Boyes, Amy Anderson, Morgan Cross and Bailley Collins had `Well 4-0 up and cruising by the interval, and Watson knows it must be better.

He said: “The players have the quality and the ability to get results.

“Although the last couple of games have not been great results, I stand by the players and what they can produce.

“We saw that fron the start of the year, and it’s maybe a case of going back to basics a little bit.

“We’ve not done that well enough in the second half against Montrose and the first half against Motherwell, so it’s about getting back to that.

“I have confidence in the players that we will get the results that we need.”

Sunday’s defeat left Accies bottom of the table, level on 10 points with Dundee United, three behind Spartans and six off Montrose in third.

Watson said: “I think we were pretty poor in the first half and didn’t make Motherwell work hard enough for their goals, so that’s the biggest disappointment.

“We didn’t get the start to the split that we wanted, and not a performance or the reaction that we were all looking for, following the Montrose game.

“But there’s not much time to dwell on anything, the split now comes thick and fast, and at the end of the day, despite a poor result, there’s still three points
