East Kilbride in 'positive place' as they aim for first trophy of the season today, says boss

East Kilbride boss Mick Kennedy says the club is a positive place as they look to end the week with a trophy from today's Lowland League Cup final.

The K-Park side thought they might have had one in the bag already, but Tuesday's potential Lowland League title clincher with Albion Rovers was postponed, delaying their march to the title.

But this afternoon will provide their first chance of silverware this season when they take on fifth tier rivals Tranent at Broadwood Stadium in Cumbernauld, kick-off 3pm.

In what could be a hugely successful season, Kilby have also booked their place in the South Challenge Cup final at the end of May after a 2-1 semi-final win at Tranent last Saturday earned them the chance of completing a potential treble.

East Kilbride have not won a treble in their short 14-year history and they will be looking to back up any trophy success with promotion to the SPFL via the pyramid play-offs, which kick-off at the end of this month.

Kennedy said: “We are heading into a massive four-to-six week spell ahead for the club with the play-offs coming up, so we just need to take each game as it comes.

“We are in a positive place; close to winning the league and in two finals.

“If you’d told us before the start of the season that this is the position we’d be in at this stage, we’d have been delighted so there’s a lot of positivity around.”

Looking ahead to the cup final, Kilby face a familiar foe in Tranent, who they have already met three times this season.

EK suffered a 7-0 humbling in the Scottish Cup in October but have since defeated the East Lothian side in their last two meetings, winning 2-1 in the cup semi on Saturday and 3-2 in a league clash in February. They also meet at Foresters Park in the
