John Rankin doesn’t care how Hamilton Accies beat Ayr United today – just as long as they do. The Accies boss says three points are massive at “the business end of the season”, and while Rankin insists he doesn’t look at the Championship table, he knows where a win could take his side.

But Rankin says his players aren’t looking for a win to put themselves in the frame for the SPFL Trust Trophy final against Raith Rovers the following weekend, they're just seeking points, and all talk of that game is still banned.

Accies have yet to beat Lee Bullen’s side this season, with a 2-2 draw at Somerset Park in August, and a 1-0 defeat at the same venue in January.

On Ayr’s last visit to New Douglas Park they ran out 3-2 winners, with a Jean-Pierre Tiehi ‘goal’ over-ruled, despite seemingly overwhelming evidence that it had crossed the line. “At times this season we’ve played some good stuff and been on the wrong end of the result,” said Rankin. “On Saturday I would take anything for three points, that’s the truth of it.; “We’re at the business end of the season, and we’re looking forward to the game, but ultimately points are the most important thing. “We need to try and get three points every week, no matter where they come from, and Saturday will be the same. “Three points at this stage of the season is huge, for everyone, no matter what team you are. “We’re going into Saturday looking to win it.
