Hamilton Accies star working hard to make sure injury nightmare is behind him

Hamilton Accies ace Scott Martin says he’s doing everything right off the pitch, so he can spend as much time as possible on it.

The 25-year-old played just 15 games for Accies last season, with his season starting in November. He missed January, most of March, and his campaign ended with a 1-0 win over Morton on April 16.

Martin says he will get injuries because of the way he plays, but hopes they’re not going to rule him out for lengthy periods.

He said: “Last season was disappointing on a personal level and as a collective.

“To to only play a handful of games and not really stamp my mark on the season was disappointing.

“But it’s a new season, I’ve worked hard in the off-season to try and keep myself ticking, and that game [3-0 win over Larne on Thursday] has done me the world of good.

“The aim is to play as many games as I can.

“The way I play, I’m not naive enough to think that I’m not going to get injured. I’m going to get hurt, and that’s fine.

“It’s just trying to bounce back from that, as effectively as possible, instead of maybe rushing it and not doing things properly.

“I’ve tried to change that in my game, off the pitch, and try and do things properly.”

Martin says this is likely to be a tough campaign and wants to help out as much as possible, even though he says they haven’t really spoken about what their target is for the Championship.

But he says everybody at the club knows that last season wasn’t good enough, as Accies finished sixth in their first term after dropping down from the Premiership.

Martin said: “We know last season wasn’t good enough, and we’ll just try and kick on.
