Hamilton Accies star David Moyo says Africa Cup of Nations experience a factor in his recent form

Hamilton star David Moyo reckons his Africa Cup of Nations experience is behind his recent form after helping Accies to a thumping win over Partick Thistle.

The striker had an outstanding display against the Jags as his persistence paved the way for Andy Ryan's opener in the 4-0 win, and he also netted a fine goal himself to make it 2-0.

His man of the match showing at Firhill came after a double in last week's 2-2 draw with Dunfermline, taking his tally to eight for the season.

Accies fans have noticed an improvement in the Zimbabwe international's all-round game as well after a barren spell earlier in the season, and Moyo says his time away with his national side in Cameroon in January - where the likes of Liverpool's Mo Salah and Sadio Mane starred - has been a factor.

He didn't make an appearance at the tournament but he reckons he took a lot from the experience.

The 27-year-old said: "When you go away and you are learning from the best players in the world, players involved in top flight football, it helps you out.

"You learn from them and being around them so I think the Africa Cup of Nations has helped me.

"I'm happy with how I'm playing and that's two in three games now so I just want to keep that going.

"It's a great result for the boys and it was thoroughly deserved. They worked so hard for it."

Moyo's scoring spree has him involved in a bit of competition with strike partner Andy Ryan for the club's top scorer.

With six games left, Ryan leads the way on 11 goals to Moyo's eight.

He added: "I've got put pressure on him now and hopefully I will catch up to him and overtake him before the season ends.

"I've got a goal target in my mind but I'll keep that to myself until I reach it.
