Hamilton Accies midfielder targets survival and new contract as nail-biting season set to go down to wire

Hamilton Accies midfielder Reegan Mimnaugh says he has two cup finals to help Accies save their season and earn himself a new deal at New Douglas Park.

The 21-year-old, who came through the youth ranks and made his senior debut in 2018, is out of contract at the end of the campaign and admits no talks have taken place yet about extending his stay at the club, with Accies focusing on trying to ensure their Championship status for next season.

They head into today's clash at home to Partick Thistle desperate for points that can take them into their final game of the season away to Arbroath on May 5 with survival still on the table.

Tuesday night's 2-1 defeat to Inverness has Accies currently in the relegation play-off spot, sitting two points ahead of bottom side Cove Rangers and four adrift of eighth place Arbroath, who both have a game in hand on April 29 and play each other this afternoon.

So it is imperative that Accies pick up points to give them the best chance of avoiding a second relegation in three seasons.

Mimnaugh said: "We felt Tuesday was a big game for us. We go 1-0 up but then we concede two sloppy goals - and they could define our season now.

"But we've still got two massive cup finals to go.

"We need to go and get six points and hope that is enough.

"People have got families and mortgages to pay so, it's not just about trying to stay up for the sake of the club, it's staying up to save your job as well.

"My contract is up at the end of the season so I want to impress to try and stay here and get a new contract for next season, hopefully.

"But a lot of the boys are like that and understand that."
