Hamilton Accies hero Ryan Fulton confirms departure with emotional address

Goalkeeper Ryan Fulton has confirmed his Hamilton Accies departure with an emotional address on the eve of their Championship play-off semi-final second leg.

Lanarkshire Live Sport exclusively revealed on Wednesday that the 27-year-old keeper would be moving on after choosing to leave in the summer at the end of his contract.

Boss John Rankin says there are no hard feelings and former Liverpool shot-stopper Fulton, who had been at the club for seven years, moves on with his best wishes - but he won’t be playing in any of the club’s remaining matches.

Their play-off clash is poised at 2-2 with Alloa Athletic, as Accies welcome the Wasps to New Douglas Park tomorrow.

In a statement issued on social media, Fulton, who played only 15 times in an injury-ravaged season, said: “I write this with a heavy heart, but I’m sure you’re already aware my time at the club has come to an end.

“I am sad the way it has ended, but wish nothing but the best for the players, fans and staff.

“I’d like to thank Ronnie [MacDonald, former owner], Colin [McGowan, former owner] and Allan (Maitland, ex-chairman] for not only bringing me to the club and giving me the chance to represent the club, but for all the support along the way!

“[Goalkeeper coach] Brian Potter for all the time and guidance he has given me, both in and out of football. The club is not only lucky to have a coach of his ability but a genuine, great guy.

“George Cairns, the heartbeat of the academy! Again, the club are lucky to have a guy who cares so much for the youth and helps continuously bring players through the system.

“[Secretary] Scott Struthers, an unsung hero for the club who makes the club work in every aspect and level!

“Thank you to all the playing staff, stadium
