Biggar Rugby Club receive cash grant for ambitious £1.6m development project

Biggar Rugby Club have been awarded nearly £800,000 towards an ambitious £1.6m development project at Hartree Mill.

Clyde Wind Farm and SSE Renewables have awarded a total of £799,999 towards the club’s vision to ‘provide a much-improved community facility with a new gym and improved clubhouse that will meet the needs of the ever-growing rugby club and wider local communities’.

The Clyde Wind Farm main fund offered £636,999 with a further £163,000 from the Clyde Wind Farm Extension Fund.

Biggar must find £140,000 to make up the short-fall, and have announced a ‘Wall fundraising scheme’ which will see individuals and companies paying to have their name on bricks installed in the extension foyer wall, as part of that.

A spokesperson said: “The club is hopeful that these substantial awards will provide momentum in their fundraising efforts that could see the development works commence later this year, starting with the new-build gym.”

It is hoped that the project will be completed ahead of the club’s 50th anniversary in 2025.

Funding from this project will see Biggar take a massive step towards being carbon neutral, with the installation of Photovoltaic panels.

The new gym and clubhouse extension will add approximately 1000 square feet to the existing facility and drawings and images are available on their website at biggarrfc.org.uk.

The new gym will welcome community membership and be available 24 hours a day.

Biggar’s playpark will be dismantled and rebuilt in a new location.

The spokesperson continued: “The club has worked hard over the past 11 years to develop the facilities and has always shown ambition to make things better for its players, members and the community.

“This latest phase follows on from the changing
