Gustaf Lagerbielke talks Celtic for the first time as he declares transfer to the champions would be an 'honour

Gustaf Lagerbielke says it would be 'an honour' to join Celtic as the Swedish star reacted to transfer links.

The young defender, 23, is the subject of a £3milllion swoop from Parkhead as Brendan Rodgers looks to react to losing Carl Starfelt to Celta Vigo, with Lagerbielke's countryman set to call time on two years at Parkhead in the next 24 hours. And on the way in could be the Elfsborg star whose family lineage, as revealed by Record Sport, makes him a baron in his homeland. The Swedish side's director Stefan Andreasson confirmed talks are ongoing with the Hoops of a summer move.

Rodgers will look to make the centre-half his sixth summer recruit and the defender has been speaking about his rise in football, and admits being part of a record sale for Elfsborg would be a privilege. He told He told bt.se: "It's an honour. It's an awesome journey and I'm very proud of it."

He added: "It's very fun first of all. It's fun when such a big club shows interest. I think all players in the Allsvenskan want to go abroad at some point and test their wings. A big club with so many fans and who played in the Champions League and won titles. It is clear that every player dreams of it. It is an honour to receive that interest.

"It has gone quickly. But it's hard work that has been the basis for that and I've just pushed on even when I didn't get to play and then took the chances when I got them. Now you're standing here with that interest, it's a great journey and I'm very proud of it. It is difficult to answer. You don't really have anything to decide on until you sit there with a contract and have to sign it."
