Guardiola knows ‘pressure’ is on after ‘incredible’ win for Man City over Leeds

Pep Guardiola admitted he is feeling some pressure as Manchester City chase down the Premier League title, following a 4-0 win over Leeds United.

Manchester City returned to the top of the Premier League a few hours after being leapfrogged by Liverpool. They did so by beating Leeds United comfortably; Rodri gave them the lead in the first half before further goals after the break from Nathan Ake, Gabriel Jesus and Fernandinho.

It means Manchester City are one point ahead of Liverpool, with each having four games to go in the Premier League title race.

Man City made lighter work of their opponents than Liverpool had when they beat Newcastle earlier in the day, but Guardiola insisted they still suffered too despite a win by a bigger margin.

In fact, much of his praise was reserved for their defensive efforts regardless of the four-goal haul.

Guardiola told Sky Sports: “We knew coming here the way they play, we suffered a lot in the first half. But in the end we had control and could have scored more. An incredible result for us.

“They are so fast up front. Today was so important to make our chances to be champions again.

“We defended well and sometimes these type of games set pieces become so important. With Nathan Ake on the pitch, we are so strong.

“What a game [Aymeric] Laporte played; he is doing an incredible season.

“We have five games to go, potentially six until the end of the season.

“I prefer to feel less pressure than I am feeling. It is a long season and this is the last effort.”

City still have games against Newcastle, Wolves, West Ham and Aston Villa as they aim to retain their title. Like rivals Liverpool, they have the second leg of a Champions League semi-final to contest too, against Real Madrid.
