Greater Manchester temperatures set to almost HALVE after another record-breaking day

Greater Manchester has baked in two days of record-busting heat - but things are all about to change. The region saw its official record high temperature broken twice this week, topping 34C yesterday before climbing above 37C today.

It comes as the country has lived through its first red weather warning for extreme heat, issued by the Met Office. Temperatures soared above 40C in parts of London and Lincolnshire today, while major incidents were declared in the capital, Leicestershire and South Yorkshire.

Last night was a sticky one for many struggling to sleep and temperatures remain high this evening. But there is some good news if the heat is all getting a bit much for you - as temperatures are about to plummet.

Having seen temperatures edge close to the 38C mark today, Greater Manchester's forecast sees temperatures of around half that number for Wednesday. The city is expected to hit a maximum temperature of 21C tomorrow on a day covered by cloud.

There's also a 20% chance of rain in the evening, according to the Met Office. This is Manchester after all - heatwave or otherwise.

The Met Office is predicting temperatures will finally drop below 30C by 10pm tonight, before dipping below 20C by 4am. Another cooler night is expected heading into Thursday, when temperatures are expected to fall to 15C by 4am before climbing back to 21C.

Temperatures are expected to rise again over the weekend, from 21C on Friday to 24C on Saturday and 25C on Sunday, but the weather is unlikely to feel like anything seen in the past 48 hours. Elsewhere in Greater Manchester,
