Grealish out, Savinho debut - Man City predicted XI vs Chelsea in Premier League opener

Jack Grealish is a doubt for Manchester City's Premier League opener and shouldn't be risked at Chelsea.

Having started every game in pre-season following his Euro 2024 snub, Grealish had a point to prove and wanted to start the season quickly on the left-wing. However, a minor injury picked up before last week's Community Shield clash vs Manchester United ruled him out at Wembley, and Pep Guardiola couldn't guarantee he would be fit for the trip to Chelsea on Sunday.

Even with injury and fitness concerns in the City squad, Grealish shouldn't be rushed back, and Pep Guardiola has enough options to go to Chelsea with a strong attack. Oscar Bobb suffered a freak injury this week and will miss the start of the season, possibly opening a start for new signing Savinho.

The £33m Brazilian came off the bench at Wembley to impress and may be given a full debut at Stamford Bridge in the absence of other senior players. Jeremy Doku can continue on the left with Grealish not fit. There is a temptation for Phil Foden to feature, yet he only returned to training this week so has to be eased back in.

Guardiola started Mateo Kovacic and Nico O'Reilly at Wembley. Rodri was the last player back in training on Wednesday so won't be ready to start, so Kovacic will be needed in midfield. He can be supported by Bernardo Silva - goalscorer at Wembley. Kevin De Bruyne, another substitute last weekend, can feed Erling Haaland at number ten.

Sky has slashed the price of its Sky Sports, Sky Stream, Sky TV and Netflix bundle in an unbeatable new deal that saves £216 and includes 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.
