Riyad Mahrez’s three-word reaction to Savinho’s Man City debut

Former Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez has reflected the thoughts of a lot of the fan base in his response to Savinho’s first competitive minutes in a City shirt.

The Brazilian completed a move from French side Troyes earlier in this summer for a fee of around £30.8 million. He was put straight into the starting line-up for the Premier League opener against Chelsea on Sunday afternoon.

He was replaced by Phil Foden at half time with City 1-0 up thanks to Erling Haaland’s opener after 18 minutes. City put the game beyond doubt with six minutes left to play thanks to Mateo Kovacic’s strike.

A knee problem saw him Savinho go down in the first half before being replaced at the break. Pep Guardiola has however confirmed that the winger will ‘hopefully’ be fit for the next game.

The club have now shared some highlights of his appearance against Chelsea, where he caused problems for Marc Cucurella. Savinho has been given the number 26 shirt, the same one worn by Mahrez, with some of his touches replicating that of the Algerian.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Mahrez has shared the clip, with a caption reading: “Wait a minute.” he included a monocle and laughing emoji.

It comes as comparisons were made between the two players. "It's like Mahrez has got a twin brother. Amazing," Glenn Hoddle told Optus Sport during the game.
