Gravesend Dynamite beat Woodlands Warriors 58-23 to win RFL Wheelchair Rugby League South Championship

Gravesend Dynamite won the RFL Wheelchair Rugby League South Championship to add to their 2022 trophy haul with a 58-23 win over Medway-based Woodlands Warriors.

After finishing top of the league, Dynamite had the choice of venue and naturally decided on home advantage in Northfleet.

Founder and coach Jason Owen had high praise for his team's attacking play - but was also delighted with Dynamite's defending.

He said: “Woodlands Warriors are improving in every match so I was pleased to be able to field a strong team and it’s some of the best rugby we’ve played all season.

“We were playing at pace from the start. Our attack would give any team in the country a challenge but versus the Warriors in this final, I was equally pleased with our defence.”

Dynamite took an early lead when two of the best young players in the country linked up. Euan Huckle took the ball at pace after great work from Max Owen for a 4-0 dream start.

Skipper Dan Grant added the conversion by punching the ball off a raised tee and Gravesend were ahead for the whole game.

“Dan has had a fantastic season and consistently been our best player this year," Owen added.

"Tony White continues to improve and made an incredible try-saving tackle early in the second half as Warriors tried to narrow the gap.

“Every single one of our players impressed. Ken Maloney did a lot of the grafting allowing our flair players, Max, Euan, Mike Grant and Jack Linden, to combine for try after try.

“[It was] a superb win against a strong team which rounded off another brilliant season for us.”

The club are hosting beginners' sessions on Thursday, October 13 and Thursday, October 20 at Northfleet Youth Centre in Hall Road. Email wheelchair.rugby@yahoo.co.uk for more information.
