Graeme Souness makes Premier League title prediction as Arsenal prepare to face Liverpool

Graeme Souness expects Manchester City to coast to another Premier League title but says a ‘nightmare run with injuries’ could open the door to the likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, Chelsea and Liverpool.

Man City thumped Southampton 4-0 on Saturday to move to the top of the table, although Arsenal will reclaim the position if they beat Liverpool tomorrow.

Defending champions City have been in devastating form this season, winning seven of their nine league games – the other two were draws – and scoring 33 goals.

Norway striker Erling Haaland is responsible for 15 of those goals and has 20 overall since his summer move from Borussia Dortmund.

While Manchester City are showing no signs of relinquishing their title as champions, Arsenal can move back above Pep Guardiola’s side tomorrow, while Tottenham are one point behind after a 1-0 win over Brighton on Saturday evening.

Chelsea are also back in the top-four after a routine 3-0 home victory over Wolves, while Liverpool and Manchester United will look to close the gap on the top sides when they return to action on Sunday.

Souness believes Man City’s rivals are ‘playing for second place’ and claims the only think that will prevent Guardiola from winning another title is an injury crisis at the Etihad.

‘The only challenge is if Manchester City have an absolute nightmare run with injuries,’ the legendary defender said on Sky Sports.

‘I think people are playing for second place, as long as City don’t have a disaster with injuries. That’s just how good Man City are.’

Speaking after Tottenham’s narrow win at Brighton, Souness added: ‘Antonio Conte will be delighted with today.
