Graeme Souness declares Man Utd are NOT a 'proper football club' amid Marcus Rashford attitude questions

Irked Graeme Souness reckons a "proper football club" would be having rows behind the scenes over the attitude of Manchester United star Marcus Rashford.

Rashford has endured a difficult season since signing a lucrative new contract last summer on the back of a career-best 30-goal haul last year. The England striker has scored just nine goals this season and has struggled to impress under Erik ten Hag this term - but has remained a regular in the starting line-up under the Dutchman. The 26-year-old has been accused of failing to put in the required work-rate for United during games by fans and pundits - and Souness has now taken aim.

Speaking on Three Up Front, William Hill’s podcast featuring Souness alongside Simon Jordan and Troy Deeney, the Liverpool and Rangers icon didn't hold back on the English Premier League heavyweights after the 4-0 defeat to Crystal Palace. Souness said: “Bruno Fernandes is a talented player, but would he fit into Manchester City’s team?

"He’s got the qualities to do that but does he have the appetite to do the hard yards, maybe we’ll never find out. When I was a player, no one was given permission to not track back, you’d sprint forward, and even quicker coming back – no one was given a pass.

"I’d say that’s how it has been before my time and even now for the very best teams. If you’re at a proper club with proper professionals, you’re doing that in training each day and if you’re not, they’ll come after you. The coach doesn’t even have to say it, that’s what happens at the big clubs.
