Gqeberha-based T20 League franchise to be called Sunrisers Eastern Cape
As the hype around Cricket South Africa's upcoming T20 tournament in January 2023 grows, the Gqeberha-based franchise is the latest to receive its official name.
As they are owned by Sun TV Network Limited, the Indian Company behind the Indian Premier League's (IPL) Sunrisers Hyderabad, it's no surprise that the naming convention carries over with the franchise to be called Sunrisers Eastern Cape.

Markram plays for Sundrisers Hyderabad in the IPL.
In this year's tournament, he played 14 matches, scoring 381 runs at an average of 47.63 and an impressive strike rate of 139.05.
Earlier on Tuesday, Former Proteas captain Faf du Plessis was named as the captain of the Johannesburg Super Kings.
He is part of a string of players who will play for the team, including Moeen Ali (England), Maheesh Theekshana (Sri Lanka), Romario Shepherd (West Indies), and Gerald Coetzee (South Africa).
