GP warns of major 'lifestyle habits' which impact on sleep

A GP has warned of some major "modern lifestyle habits" which can have a huge impact on our health - and especially our sleep.

Dr Tim Mercer, a GP partner in Wirral, Merseyside, highlighted the common habits which contribute to highly reported health problems. He said poor work-life balance, low-value diets, lack of movement, incorrect desk setups, excess alcohol and caffeine and detrimental social media habits all play a part in a number of health issues.

According to the expert, mental and physical health problems like insomnia, acid reflux, poor circulation, muscle pain, digestion issues and anxiety are becoming more prevalent among patients seeking medical advice, reports the Liverpool ECHO. He shared his concerns with the sleep specialists at adjustable bed retailer Opera Beds, who are aiming to raise awareness about the health benefits of elevated sleeping, particularly in the NASA-developed "zero-gravity" position.
