Government minister in Manchester on day of crunch reshuffle heaps praise on David Cameron appointment

A key government minister has remained tight-lipped on the decision to sack Suella Braverman from the cabinet this morning - but did heap praise on new Foreign Secretary David Cameron.

Lucy Frazer, Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, was hundreds of miles away from Number 10 on Monday (November 13) as she was appearing at the WeCreate conference at Aviva Studios in Manchester to ‘celebrate the success of the creative industries across the North’. Meanwhile, a political storm unfolded in Westminster.

Suella Braverman was sacked as Home Secretary following a week of incendiary statements, with James Cleverly taking on her role. His post as Foreign Secretary was then taken up by former PM David Cameron, in a shock move.

Other moves include Steve Barclay taking on the Environment gig, and Victoria Atkins taking over his old job as Health Minister. However, Ms Frazer did not condemn nor support the actions of her former colleague Suella Braverman, and said the decision was that of Rishi Sunak’s.

When asked by the M.E.N. if Suella Braverman ‘had to go’ due to the way she had approached her role in the past week, Ms Frazer said: “The Prime Minister makes decisions about the reshuffle, and we all serve our country and are appointed or removed by the Prime Minister. Those are questions for him.”

And, when asked if she was concerned about the appointment of David Cameron as Foreign Secretary as it meant that ‘an MP could not fill that role,’ the Minister talked up the credentials of the man who called the EU referendum in 2016.
