Gov Wike flags-off Port Harcourt Cycling Road Championship

Outgoing Governor of Rivers State, Nyesome Wike, is expected to flag-off the National Cycling Road Championship, which holds today in Port Harcourt today.

The one-day event is scheduled to feature 150 cyclists jostling for the top prize of N600, 000 in the Elite men and women categories from across the 21 states of the federation.

President of the Cycling Federation of Nigeria, Engr. Giadomenico Masari, disclosed that the cycling championship was part of the transition events lined up for the inauguration of the in-coming government in the state on May 29.

Meanwhile, out of the 150 cyclists registered to participate in the cycling events are 101 males, while and 49 females; divided into four categories namely: Elite men (58) and women (12) as well as Junior men (43) and women (37).

Top cyclists expected to take part in the Elite women category include the national champion, Ese Ukpeseraye from Delta State; Tombrapa Grikpa and Rosemary Marcus (Rivers State), Tawakalt Yekeen (Oyo) and Mary Samuel (Delta State).

In the Elite men category, all eyes will be on Rivers State’s Bethel Vitalis, Krotimi Abaka (Bayelsa) and Edo State’s National Sports Festival gold medalist, Isa Momoh.
