"Good signing" - Journalist reacts to "interesting" link involving Tottenham and 75-cap big-name

Tottenham Hotspur’s apparent interest in Barcelona forward Memphis Depay is an ‘interesting transfer link’, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Depay has reportedly attracted the interest of Spurs in recent weeks after falling down the pecking order under new Barca manager Xavi, opening the door to a potentially imminent exit.

According to Spanish reporter Gerard Romero (as quoted by BarcaUniversal), Tottenham have ‘already made an offer’ for Depay as they look to bolster their attacking options.

The 75-cap Netherlands international arrived at Camp Nou last summer on a free transfer form Lyon, reuniting with his former national team boss Ronald Koeman.

And Depay got his Barca career off to a fast start, registering eight goals and two assists in his opening 15 La Liga games for the Catalan giants.

However, the departure of Koeman combined with a hamstring and Achilles injury has seen the 28-year-old fail to start a league game since 4 December.

In Depay’s absence, January signings Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and the returning Ousmane Dembele have made the attacking positions their own, guiding the Blaugrana to third place in the top-flight table and to the quarter-finals of the Europa League.

Xavi, therefore, may deem the technically gifted talent surplus to requirements as he plots the next step in his rebuild, allowing Tottenham to swoop in and take advantage.

O’Rourke has stated how the speculation over Depay’s future is intriguing after his time at Barca hasn’t quite gone as planned so far.
