Goggia confirms downhill title while Lie takes victory

Sophia Goggia wrapped up her fourth downhill Crystal Globe, while Kajsa Lie made Norwegian history on a frantic morning in Kvitfjell. Goggia finished second to Lie and that was enough to confirm her third title in a row, and fourth in five years, after another dominant downhill season that has brought five wins from eight events.

Ad Lie's maiden World Cup victory made her the first Norwegian woman to win a downhill race, sending the home fans wild in the stands. KvitfjellLie takes gold in women's downhill, Goggia seals World Cup Crystal GlobeAN HOUR AGO The 24-year-old, who won a surprise Super G bronze at last month's World Championships, had only two alpine World Cup podiums to her name before Saturday's event.

Yet she set the benchmark with a clean 1:32.36 and watched on as her rivals failed to beat her. Italy's Goggia, 30, was 0.29s off the pace, while Switzerland's Corinne Suter completed the podium in third.

USA superstar Mikaela Shiffrin finished fifth in her least favourite alpine discipline and remains without a downhill win this season. Shiffrin still has a commanding lead in the race for the overall Crystal Globe, and has already been confirmed as slalom champion.

She will also hope to win her second Super G gold of the season when the field returns on Sunday.
