GMP constable appears in court charged with two assaults, one involving a toddler

A Greater Manchester Police officer facing two charges of assault, one involving a toddler, appeared in court today (Wednesday). Police Constable Paul Cleasby is alleged to have assaulted a man by beating and assaulted a two-year-old girl by beating in Oldham on November 18 last year.

The 34-year-old denies the charges and a trial is set to take place later this year. The charges, which were brought following an investigation by the Independent Office for Police Conduct, relate to a domestic incident that the constable had been called out to attend.

Appearing in court for the first time today at Liverpool Magistrates’ Court, District Judge Wendy Lloyd heard that the child was allegedly hurt when a door was opened forcefully.
