GMB's Kate Garraway turns away from Health Secretary after tragic confession
A visibly shaken Kate Garraway turned away from Health Secretary Wes Streeting after confronting him about a salary increase for healthcare workers.
The discussion turned intense on the show as Garraway, alongside co-host Adil Ray, grilled the MP on whether he considered £12 per hour a liveable wage, urging for a hike to £15 an hour. Yet, Streeting evaded a direct response, steering around Ray's probing on if he would manage on £12 an hour himself.
At one stage of the interview, a disheartened Garraway shifted her chair and body away from the camera while Streeting explained: "It does take time. I'll just say, the government has only been in for six months, give us a chance but we know this is a problem."
Tapping into her personal tragedy, Garraway brought up her late husband Derek Draper during the discourse about healthcare services. The passing of her husband on 3rd January 2024, at 56 years old, marked a sombre milestone in Kate's life.
The adversity faced by Garraway and their children, Billy and Darcey, was profound as they spent nearly four tumultuous years witnessing Derek battle Covid-19, its lengthy aftermath, including times fighting for his life, once even being placed in an induced coma due to severe damage to major organs, reports the Mirror.
The recent festive season was notably poignant for Kate who observed her first Christmas without Derek, as she along with her two children endeavoured to cope with the loss of a treasured husband and father.
