Glover Teixeira lays out possible retirement plan after UFC 275

UFC light heavyweight champion Glover Teixeira has given his thoughts on a potential retirement plan as UFC 275 gets closer and closer.

Next month at UFC 275 in Singapore, Glover Teixeira will attempt to defy the odds once again as he prepares to defend the UFC light heavyweight title against rising star Jiri Prochazka. While the 29-year-old contender may be one of the scariest fighters currently residing in the top 15, Teixeira knows what it feels like to be the underdog – and he also knows what it takes to succeed at the championship level, even at this late stage of his career.

At the age of 42, the Brazilian is doing things that few could’ve imagined would be possible at the elite level. He holds the gold at 205 pounds, he’s on a six-fight win streak and he seems to somehow be getting better with age.

Ahead of the Prochazka bout there’s naturally been a lot of talk about how much longer he can continue to compete in the UFC. During an interview with Ariel Helwani, Teixeira noted that while he has a ‘perfect’ scenario in mind, there’s still a chance he could keep going for as long as he’s physically able.

“In camp right now, I’m a lion. You gotta come to see my training, then you’ll see you won’t ask that question about retirement. The way I’ve been training, the way I’ve been feeling, the way camp has been going, I’m so happy about everything.”

“Eventually I do want to retire, a perfect scenario is me beating this guy in Singapore and hopefully fight Jan [Blachowicz] at Madison Square Garden and then call it a day. But I don’t want to make a decision like that. It’s a possibility, but I don’t wanna ‘I’m gonna retire this year’ or this or that. It’s tough, there’s so much fights out there, so much money in the game.
