Glentoran continue recruitment drive with another summer signing

Glentoran have continued their summer recruitment with the signing of goalkeeper Ollie Webber.

The 22-year-old becomes the club's seventh signing of the transfer window and follows hot on the heels of James Singleton's arrival on Wednesday.

It sees Northern Ireland youth international Webber return to the Oval for a second spell after featuring for the club's academy earlier in his career.

Webber - who was born in Portsmouth but came to live in Comber with his mum Emma when he was eight - played for Ards Rangers and Glentoran before earning a move to Crystal Palace in 2016. He went on to sign a professional contract with the Selhurst Park club after winning the league with the Under-18s in 2017/18.

He became a key part of Palace's Under 23s, starting 17 league games in the campaign that saw Palace promoted to the Premier League 2. His performances in South London also earned recognition with Northern Ireland Under 21s and a loan to Dover Athletic.

Webber joined Portsmouth back in January this year and was back-up to Republic of Ireland keeper Gavin Bazunu who was on loan at Fratton Park from Manchester City. Now the talented keeper is returning to East Belfast for a second spell with Glentoran.

Webber becomes Glentoran's seventh signing of the summer and the second goalkeeper to join Mick McDermott's side. They also signed former Larne shot-stopper Mike Argyrides.

McDermott has also signed former Glenavon striker Danny Purkis, ex-Queen of the South forward Ally Roy, and defensive duo Aidan Wilson and Harry Murphy.
