Giovanni Pernice announces 'I'm back' as he addresses 'difficult year' following Strictly Come Dancing exit

Former Strictly Come Dancing UK dancer Giovanni Pernice was named winner of the Italian dance show Ballando Con Le Stelle over the weekend.

Giovanni won the 19th season of the show, which is the Italian version of Strictly Come Dancing, with his professional partner and real-life partner Bianca Guaccero on Saturday night.

The win came months he left the UK in the wake of an investigation into allegations about his behaviour on the BBC show made by former dance partner Amanda Abbington.

Taking to his Instagram on Sunday, the day after winning the trophy, Giovanni addressed his UK fans and thank them for their support.

He wrote: "We did it !! WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS !! after a difficult year I’m back. Thank you to each and every one of you that took the time to support me and Bianca over the last few months - it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

"We have done some incredible dances, and obviously im very proud of what we achieved together!"

Giovanni added: "To everyone in the UK and Ireland - thank you so much. The constant support I have felt from you all over the last few months has been unbelievable! I see you all, and I’m so grateful to each and every one of you for being there last night and voting when needed - I know it was a lot."

"It felt amazing to be in the final again doing what I love - and then to win as well was a dream and definitely something I will never forget! Thank you for being there and being part of that with me. I can’t wait to see you all again very soon!"

Responding to his post, Strictly head judge Shirley Ballas commented: "a huge congratulations. Wow what a trophy. Well deserved. See you soon x" @r.hunt.22 echoed: "Well done Gio!! You were so missed on Strictly UK, great to see you getting the recognition
