Gillingham unable to hold open training session for fans at Como over health and safety issues
Gillingham have scrapped plans for an open training session in Como due to health and safety issues.
The Gills had hoped to invite those fans who had made the trip to Italy to watch them train on Tuesday but say that’s no longer possible - and will instead hold an informal meet and greet at the match on Wednesday.
Gillingham are in Como for a pre-season camp and several hundred fans are making the trp to watch them play on Wednesday afternoon.
On Monday, the Gills said it was no longer possible to have their fans watch training.
The club said: “We regret to inform Gills fans that, after dialogue with Como officials, we will not be able to accommodate supporters at the training facility.
“This is due to health and safety reasons, with the ground currently under construction.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Unfortunately this was beyond our control, no fans are currently permitted at the venue.”
Instead, the Gills have said that players and management would be available for photos and to sign autograph at half-time and following the game against Como.
