Gillingham started the season with wins over Stockport and Southampton and come up against Accrington in League 2 this Saturday

Gillingham manager Neil Harris doesn’t want any let-up from his team as they prepare for a first league game at Priestfield this season.

There was a real buzz about their season opener at title-favourites Stockport last Saturday and their home Carabao Cup game against Championship side Southampton on Tuesday night. The Gills won them both.

On Saturday the Gills welcome Accrington Stanley to ME7.

“We won’t get carried away,” said Harris, after league and cup success. “Let’s try and keep a lid on it.

“We had a great win at Stockport and a fantastic win against top opposition, let’s just go one game at a time.

“It’s a good start but what I do know is that what we achieved at Stockport and what we achieved (on Tuesday), we have to repeat on Saturday.

“Accrington is a completely different challenge and they were good at the weekend (beating Newport County 3-0), especially first half of the game I watched. They were really good and they will bring a different challenge and we have to be ready for it.

“John Coleman (the Accrington manager) will bring a big, physical, aggressive, hard-working, fast Accrington side here and it will be a different game.”

Harris’ men enjoyed a headline-grabbing midweek win over Saints in the Carabao Cup but the Gills boss hasn’t taken his eyes off the main task in hand, which is League 2 success.

He said: “I watched Accrington’s (weekend game back) on Monday night and Tuesday morning. It was clear in my mind that was I looking towards Accrington.

“Tuesday was an enjoyable fixture, almost a free hit for us.

“I picked a team, set up on Monday accordingly and the lads were well prepared, 100% organised, everyone could see that and because I was focused on Accrington didn’t mean it would take away the
