Gillingham release winger Jack Nolan by mutual consent after just one season at Priestfield following move from Accrington Stanley

Jack Nolan has left Gillingham after agreeing to terminate his contract.

The 24-year-old winger joined the Gills from Accrington last summer but was never able to find top form at Priestfield.

With Gillingham bringing in Garath McCleary and Jonny Smith to boost their attacking options on transfer deadline day, Nolan’s chance of first-team football looked slim.

The Gills stated that they “decided to terminate his contract by mutual consent”.

Nolan has not featured for Gillingham this season and featured just twice since Ainsworth took charge at the end of March – starting at Cheltenham on Good Friday and coming on as a substitute against Chesterfield 10 days earlier.

He arrived at Priestfield when Mark Bonner was manager in what was seen as an ambitious signing after his sparkling form for Accrington, where he scored 17 goals in the 2023/24 season.

But he netted just once in a Gills shirt – in the opening-day 4-1 defeat of Carlisle – and leaves with 36 appearances to his name.

With his contract cut short, Nolan is free to sign for another club after the transfer window closes.
