Kieron Agbebi makes Sheppey United loan move from Dover and could make his debut at home to Eastbourne Town on Saturday while another former Gillingham player Ben Clark makes permanent switch to Holm Park

Sheppey United have had extra time to work with new forward signing Kieron Agbebi.

The new loan signing was set to be thrust straight into action against Sittingbourne on Saturday before the Swale derby fell victim to the icy conditions.

Agbebi was a professional for a season at Gillingham a few years ago and will relish the chance to show what he can do after agreeing a loan move to Sheppey from Dover Athletic.

Sheppey’s assistant boss Tommy Osborne explained why having Saturday’s game called off could have helped the young forward.

“We more than likely would have thrown him straight in on Saturday,” said Osborne.

“That wouldn’t have been ideal. He had met the lads, and already knew some of them, but he hadn’t trained with us.

“But with Dan Bradshaw and Danny Leonard injured it might have been needs must.

“He will train with us this week. He should have a better understanding of what we want to do. That could be a positive we take from the negative of the game being called off.

“For Kieron, it’s an opportunity to express himself, get some minutes and do well.”

The Ites were keen to play at the weekend and hosts Sittingbourne did what they could to get the surface playable.

The kick-off was even delayed in an effort to allow the pitch to thaw, but the game was always likely to be susceptible to the frosty conditions.

Osborne said: “With it being a local derby, people were keen to have it on, with a good crowd expected and I totally get that.

“Sittingbourne did everything they possibly could to get the game on but when I was walking around out there, it would have been a difficult playing surface and I could see it was very doubtful.
