Gillingham defender Sam Gale missed Tuesday’s game against MK Dons after revealing he needed hospital treatment after falling ill
Gillingham defender Sam Gale has gone on social media to explain his absence on Tuesday night.
Gale, 21, has played in almost every game under current boss Gareth Ainsworth but has revealed that he needed hospital treatment after becoming ill last weekend, following the game against Fleetwood Town.
The defender wasn’t in the squad on Tuesday night for the match against MK Dons.
Speaking after the heavy midweek loss to the Dons, Ainsworth said there had been “an incident with [Sam Gale] at the weekend” which prompted wild speculation among some fans.
Gale has now come out and explained himself what happened.
Writing on X, he said: “Mental that I’m having to do this. Being sent rumours and tweets that I was left out of the squad on Tuesday due to a disciplinary issue or an argument.
“Simply no need for lies. after Saturdays game I fell ill and spent two days in the ICU.
“Everything is okay. I’ll be back soon.”
The Gills struggled to cope defensively on Tuesday night as they were beaten 5-1 at home against Milton Keynes.
Gale was one of nine senior first-team players who were missing for the match.
