Gillingham 1 Barnet 1: Reaction from Gills boss Gareth Ainsworth after League 2 draw at Priestfield

Gillingham manager Gareth Ainsworth has urged his side to become more ruthless after being held to a home draw by Barnet.

The Gills picked up a point after Bradley Dack equalised at the end of the first half with a well-hit free-kick, but they were unable to make the most of their opportunities from open play, as the match finished 1-1.

Ainsworth felt their play in the second half should have warranted more.

He said: “(It was a) poor first half for us. I've never seen us lose so many battles, and that frustrated me.

“We looked a bit off it with the early kick-off, or whatever.

“Second half, better team by far, and looked like we could have got a goal.

“It looked like we were the aggressors. We’ve just got to score when we have the opportunities, we've got to be more clinical.

“We've got to be more ruthless and see the opposition off, especially at home.

“Too often we get in these great positions, 3v2 and things like that, and it's too easy to defend against this, so we really need to put the knife in there and go, bang, we're going to go for the jugular because those moments don't happen a lot, when you get two or three a game, you must make them into one or two goals at least.

“We can't just keep relying on moments of magic and set-pieces, we have to carve teams apart, and when we get our moments, we've got to take them.

“Barnet had a moment, and they took it, and that's what we have to do more.
